A regulator clock is a high-precision timekeeper developed in the 18th and 19th centuries, widely used in railway stations, offices, and wealthy households during the Victorian era for setting other clocks.

These clocks typically feature solid timber carcasses veneered in figured walnut or mahogany, housing intricate brass mechanical movements, lead or brass weights, and glass viewing panels.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut brass gears, maker signatures on the enamel dial, original weights and pendulums, and natural aging characteristics such as slight oxidisation on the brass and shrinkage cracks in the wood veneer.

Mount the clock as a focal point on a plain, neutral wall in a hallway, study, or living room, allowing its architectural timber details and exposed mechanical pendulum to provide textural contrast against contemporary finishes.

Keep the clock away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting and veneer lifting, mount it securely to a load-bearing wall, and have the movement professionally serviced every few years.
