Knight Fine Antiques and Collectables has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The leather writing slope is split into two sections a top and the bottom they both open to reveal storage space for small items or documents.

Hidden in the top storage space under the inkwells is two secret drawers, which can be revealed by pressing the left inside side wall gently in. Furthermore this campaign box also features a drawer, which has fine dovetails, running from end to end at the bottom. The drawer has a traditional campaign brass handle and can only slide out once a brass pin has been pulled out from the top.

This box was believed to originally have a space for detachable reading stand on the top, there are two brass holes, which were found filled in, which would have provided space for a reading stand to slot in, this is proven by the small brass stand inside the writing slope creating an angle for the top to sit at, convenient for reading.
