Elaborately and finely decorated in gilt silver. The top with gold applique and enamel work and a superbly detailed central cameo, most likely of the Greek Goddess Artemis (or Demeter). The hinged lid and sides profusely decorated. Allegorical scenes with scrolling and swirling flowers and foliage, attended by butterflies, and guarding Swan. The lid and each side decorated in finely detailed repoussé, with mythological and allegorical scenes, typical of the Renaissance Revival. The remaining surface decorated in a tour de force with flowers and vines, scrollwork, and stippled surfaces, and a central cartouche (blank). Superb craftsmanship.
