This Fine french four glass mantel clock has a beautifully gilded case with thick bevelled glass panels and doors. the eight day movement with visible jewelled Brocot escapement is mounted on a two part white enamel roman dial with blued spade hands. The two train movement strikes the hours on a silvered bell with an appealing crisp tone.This clock is particularly interesting because of the pendulum constructed in the form of a ships wheel with a weighted bottom that oscillates rather than swing from side to side.This clock is stamped S.Marti and Numbered 14203, the stamp only shows the bronze medal design dating it to between 1867 and 1889 when the silver medal was added to the stamp.
