Originating from the Louis XVI period around 1880, this antique French bedside cabinet is shaped in warm brown mahogany and topped with patterned marble. The elegant piece has three front drawers fitted with ornate pierced brass handles, flanked by fine bronze appliques at the upper corners and slender fluted legs descending to an open undertier shelf. Distinctive design details include rounded corners, intricate parquetry panelling across the drawer fronts, and delicate reeding along the supports. Measuring 86 cm high by 41 cm wide and 37 cm deep, it offers a compact footprint suited for various interior spaces. Positioned traditionally beside a bed, the cabinet provides convenient storage and a display surface for a lamp or books within a bedroom. Alternatively, it works effectively as a lamp table or accent stand in a hallway, drawing room or empty corner of a home. The combination of rich timber tones and classic French styling allows the piece to integrate easily into both traditional and transitional decorative schemes while adding a functional surface.

FAQs

Originating in the late eighteenth century, Louis XVI style furniture features neoclassical symmetry, straight fluted legs, geometric veneers, and understated brass mounts.

Craftspeople typically utilised hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, topped with natural marble slabs and finished with brass handles and wood marquetry.

Authentic pieces generally display hand-dovetailed drawer construction, original marble tops with age-appropriate wear, hand-chased brass hardware, and solid wood drawer linings.

These compact pieces work effectively as occasional side tables beside low-profile sofas, as standalone accent furniture in hallways, or as classic nightstands flanking a bed.

Dust the wood surfaces regularly with a soft cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly along the grain, and clean the marble top using a neutral cleaner to prevent etching.
