Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, French horologists produced rectangular cabinet mantel clocks featuring rich timber veneers such as rosewood decorated with intricate floral or foliate marquetry inlays. These timepieces were designed for display on salon chimneypieces, combining precise mechanical movements with decorative cabinetmaking techniques.

These clocks typically utilise a solid timber core veneered in rosewood or mahogany, with inlays crafted from lighter woods like boxwood or holly. Additional components include cast brass bezels, glass face covers, and silvered or enamelled metal dials housing brass clockwork mechanisms.

Authentic pieces generally feature maker stamps or inscriptions on the dial face or rear movement plate, often noting Paris origins. Examination of the marquetry reveals hand-cut wood veneers, while the back panel provides access to a brass pendulum movement stamped with serial numbers or maker medallions.

Position the clock as a focal point on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or formal writing desk. Pairing the rich rosewood casing alongside modern neutral backdrop tones, structural greenery, or stone accessories creates a balance of historic and contemporary textures.

Position the timepiece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and sudden fluctuations in humidity to prevent wood veneer cracking or lifting. Regular care involves winding the mechanism with the correct key, dusting the exterior with a soft dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax sparingly along the wood grain.
