FAQs

Marquetry involves applying pieces of veneer to a structure to form decorative patterns, a technique that reached its peak in France during the 18th century under royal patronage.

These pieces typically feature a carcase of secondary wood veneered with exotic and native hardwoods like walnut, kingwood, and fruitwood, often combined with marble tops and cast brass mounts.

Authenticity is determined by hand-cut veneer work with subtle irregularities, traditional joinery methods, natural shrinkage of the wood over time, and cast bronze or brass mounts with hand-finished detailing.

They can be used as contrasting nightstands in a minimalist bedroom to add texture and historical interest, or paired with neutral textiles to highlight the intricate wood grain.

Keep wooden furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting, use coasters to protect marble and wood finishes, and apply microcrystalline wax sparingly.
