Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of French bedside cabinets dates from around 1900, rendered in the Louis XVI style. Constructed from warm brown walnut with a polished finish, each cabinet incorporates a stone top with varied pale tones, a single upper drawer with a central metal pull, and an inlaid cupboard door featuring geometric banding and a small round knob. Further decoration includes classical gilt brass mounts at the upper corners and turned, slender tapered legs fitted with brass sabots at the base. Visible details include grain patterns in the wood veneer and subtle wear consistent with age. Measuring 81 cm high, 45 cm wide, and 33 cm deep, these compact bedside tables suit placement beside a bed in a principal bedroom or guest room to hold lamps and books, or serve as small accent stands in a living room or hallway.

FAQs

French Louis XVI style bedside cabinets are defined by Neoclassical design principles, featuring straight geometric lines, slender tapered legs, intricate marquetry or parquetry veneer work, and fitted marble tops.

These cabinets were typically constructed from solid hardwoods clad in fine veneers such as walnut, rosewood, or kingwood, capped with variegated natural marble tops, and adorned with cast gilt-brass or bronze mounts.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, original marble slabs showing age-appropriate wear on the underside, hand-chased metal mounts, and natural patination on the timber and brass.

Pairing these cabinets alongside a contemporary upholstered bed framing creates visual interest, where the historic warm timber tones and marble surface contrast with clean modern textiles and minimal lighting.

Clean marble surfaces using a soft cloth dampened with pH-neutral stone cleaner, avoiding acidic substances. Apply high-quality beeswax sparingly to polished wood veneers, and keep the furniture away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking.
