Rare Antique French Pocket Watch Box - Equestrian / Horse Racing Interest

Description

A most unusual and highly desirable example of a French pocket watch box, rare due it's collectible Equestrian theme.

The glass box is surrounded in Ormolu trim with a twisted rope mount creating the two feet supporting this horseshoe shaped box. This rope is mounted to the top with a horse and jockey and two horseshoe, jockey cap and crop vignette each side of the box.

The hinged door comes down to reveal the original pale blue silk and the hook still present to rest a small pocket watch. The sides of the glass box are a turquoise colour and the front a thick bevelled clear glass.

Dating to around 1880, it remains in superb condition. Measures a total of 3 3/4" tall x 3 1/4" at widest points x 3" at deepest points.
