Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.

The box opens to reveal the red leather writing surface with a gold embossed decoration. There is a most unusual feature of this box which is the fitted stationery compartments which are lined in the original decorative paper. In front of these is the removable pen tray with storage below, two lidded compartments for housing pen nibs, sealing wax and the like. The box also comes with it's two original inkwells.

Both top and bottom sections of the slope open to reveal good, clean compartments for the storage of papers and stationery.
Excellent condition, measuring 14" x 10" x 5 1/2" tall while closed.
