FAQs

Tea caddies originated in the 17th century when tea was an expensive, luxury commodity imported from Asia, requiring secure storage under lock and key.

They were typically crafted from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and burr walnut, often featuring brass escutcheons, handles, and internal foil linings.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, period-appropriate brass hardware, aged timber patination, and often hand-blown glass mixing bowls or internal compartments.

It can be placed on a console table, bookshelf, or mantelpiece as a decorative object that adds historical texture and practical surface storage to a room.

Preserve the timber by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive humidity fluctuations, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the polished surface.
