Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Victorian Japanese Kutani porcelain vases features baluster shapes with flared rims, finished in a terracotta red glaze with white background reserves, extensive gilding, and hand-painted iron-red enamel decoration depicting figurative cartouche panels and landscape scenes. The glaze displays glossy reflective highlights and complex hand-painted detailing alongside gilded scrollwork patterns across the shoulders and neck. Each vase measures 34 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 17 cm deep. Placed upon a sideboard top within an English country house interior, the vases contribute ornamental colour and traditional oriental design aesthetics to a living room, dining room, or entrance hallway setting. They provide a matching decorative display element suitable for holding floral arrangements or standing as ornamental focal points on display furniture surfaces.

Kutani porcelain originated in the Ishikawa prefecture of Japan during the 17th century, named after the village of Kutani. Production was revived during the 19th century, becoming renowned worldwide for export ceramics during the Meiji era.

Kutani ceramics are crafted from kaolin clay fused at high temperatures to create a white porcelain base. Decoration involves hand-painted overglaze enamels, particularly iron-red enamel (aka-e) and gold leaf detailing.

Authentic pieces feature dense, hand-painted decoration, often including figurative panels, landscapes, or natural scenes. Look for character signatures painted on the base in red or gold and fine gilding over an iron-red palette.

Place a matching pair symmetrically on a mantelpiece, sideboard top, or console table to establish visual balance. The warm red glaze complements dark wood surfaces and neutral minimalist backdrops alike.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to clean the surface. Avoid water exposure, harsh chemical detergents, or abrasive pads, as these will wear away delicate overglaze gilding and enamels over time.
