Description

This exquisite walnut Edwardian writing slope is in outstanding condition and comes with a functional key. Adorned with brass banding, a nameplate, and an escutcheon, it features a working Bramah lock and key. The nameplate, positioned at the centre of the lid, bears the inscription "Presented to Mr. John Brown by the employees of Inverkeithing Paper Mill 1911." The box showcases remarkable walnut veneers with exceptional graining. The interior includes a tooled leather writing surface, compartments for inkwells, a pen tray, and a lidded nib box. Storage spaces are available beneath both flaps of the writing surface. In keeping with the period, it has secret drawers designed to hide private papers. Three of these drawers are hidden beneath the upper part of the writing slope, accessible via the pen tray, and another is revealed by pulling a brass pin. This stunning and highly functional box, which is both utilitarian and ornamental, would add a touch of history to any desk and make an ideal gift.
