Description

This is a Regency domed top box or casket. Originally it would likely have been a sewing or work box but the interior is now bare, showing the pine carcass. The box has boxwood inlaid borders and a boxwood escutcheon. There are borders of gilt decoration too. There is a brass handle to either side. I have seen a very similar example before that had a swing handle attached to each of these brass knobs.

It comes with a key which works the lock, however the box will lock itself if you tip the box on its left side and unlock if you tip it on its right side.

The interior and underside are bare. There would likely have been baize or some other liner originally. There are two small cracks to the lid which have been restored professionally in the past, and the finish has a nice sheen.
