This 19th-century Victorian Anglo-Japanese display cabinet follows an Aesthetic Movement style, rendered in warm brown tones using a combination of bamboo, wood, and straw parquetry. The structure includes a bamboo frame, asymmetrical shelving, geometric straw parquetry cupboard doors, and decorative lattice back panels, complemented by dark curved finials at the top corners and small rectangular feet at the base. The woodwork exhibits varying shades of honey, amber, and dark espresso timber throughout the patterned panels and frameworks. Measuring 114 cm high, 73 cm wide, and 29 cm deep, this versatile piece provides open display areas and enclosed storage compartments with small metal hardware pulls on the lower drawers. It serves as an ideal display unit for a sunlit conservatory, living room, study, or hallway, accommodating decorative objects, books, or collections on its multi-level tiers.

Popularised during the late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement, bamboo furniture combined natural materials with Eastern design influences, resulting in decorative storage and display pieces.

These cabinets typically feature split or whole bamboo framework, complemented by woven straw parquetry, lacquer panels, or patterned matting over solid wood cores.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature hand-joined bamboo construction, iron or brass pin fasteners, geometric parquetry, and natural patination from age rather than modern synthetic finishes.

Place a bamboo display cabinet against a neutral wall to highlight its geometric fretwork, and style the open shelving with ceramics, books, or indoor plants.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid direct heat or high humidity, which can cause the natural bamboo to split or warp.
