Measuring 3ft 3?� wide, the camphor wood trunk is constructed with hand-dovetail joints, which incorporate the original cast brass strapwork and studs to the corners, front, sides and rear, as well as the original locking latch to the lid. The lid also retains its original central brass rectangular plaque and recessed brass handle along with the original twin-working locks (with keys). The Victorian camphor chest would have originally been used to secure valuables from theft whilst in transit � there are old travel labels visible on side referring to �Bombay / London�. The interior of the camphor wood trunk comprises a single-plank top and floor and is in good clean condition. On the right-hand side is the original internal candle box, with hinged lid. A brass chain secures the lid whilst the trunk is open. The sides of the box retain the original brass carrying handles.
