Gillers Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Regency era.
The asymmetric body is raised on squat bun feet and has a domed hinged lid and turned handles with loops. The interior of the lid has a drop-down letter compartment that is lined with dark pink silk at the front and decorated with crossed frilled ribbons.

The wood has lovely grain and a rich, warm patina.
Wonderfully decorative piece with good storage space.
Made in England, c. 1840’s.

Good antique condition. Some losses to the nacre inlay; wear inside appropriate to age; crack to base; one loop ring absent; losses to key escutcheon inlay; long crack and chip to veneer at the front; partial loss to one handle; large chip along the edge of the right side; large tear to paper corner of the letter compartment.
