This Georgian display cabinet is an eighteenth-century mahogany piece in a rich dark brown. The imposing structure stands 246 cm high, 126 cm wide, and 62 cm deep. The upper section comprises two glass doors with Gothic astragal glazing bars and a decorative dentil moulding beneath the cornice, resting above a tier of three small drawers. Below sits a chest of drawers with two large pull handles finished with circular brass backplates, surrendering to a lower pair of cupboard doors decorated with flame mahogany oval veneers and fine stringing. The base rests on shaped bracket feet. Such a capacious storage unit finds practical application in a traditional dining room or living space for displaying china, glassware, or books while concealing linens and tableware in the lower cupboards.

Georgian cabinet making in the 18th century is distinguished by refined proportions, the widespread use of imported mahogany, and classical architectural elements such as pediments, dentil mouldings, and gothic astragal glazing.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid and veneered mahogany, featuring hand-blown glass panes secured with wooden glazing bars and brass hardware.

Authentic 18th-century cabinets display hand-dovetailed drawer joints, hand-sawn secondary timbers like pine or oak, original brass keyhole escutcheons, and slight distortion in the historical glass.

A tall mahogany cabinet serves as a focal point in modern dining rooms or living spaces, providing visual weight and contrast when paired with light neutral walls and contemporary artwork.

Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and central heating sources, clean the glass with ammonia-free solutions applied directly to a cloth, and periodically nourish the timber with natural beeswax.
