Nominal old use marks to the top, external sides and leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). The chip-edge carvings on the lid are original. The lid also retains original iron strap hinges and hand-made iron nails. The interior is clean, dry and functional. The oak box retains what we believe is the original iron striking plate, which incorporates a restored internal working lock, which comes with a working key. The lid is secured by an iron hinged hasp, which allows the box to be locked. The oak box retains its original lid, floor, sides and back. As this oak bible box boasts its original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This 17th century bible box is solid in joint; it does not wobble on the floor and is ready to use.
