The reverse of the medallion seen from the inside of the snuff box behind amber glass, shows the choir before the fire and is inscribed 'The choir of York Minster, destroyed by fire 2nd February 1829'.

The fire damaged and destroyed 230 feet of the choir roof, the medieval choir stalls, the organ and the pulpit. The amber glass gives the picture of the choir a glow, almost like there is a fire raging. It picks up a lot of details. A very interesting snuff box.
The box measures 8cm w x 2cm h.
