FAQs

Nineteenth-century Irish glassware is characterised by heavy lead content, distinctive mould-blown or free-blown forms, and often features heavy cut or star-cut bases with a characteristic greyish tint.

These pieces were crafted using heavy flint glass or lead crystal, shaped via free-blowing or mould-blowing techniques, and hand-finished with polished rims and pontil marks on the base.

Authenticity is indicated by weight, minor surface imperfections such as air bubbles or straw marks from hand-production, wear scratches on the base, and characteristic low-refraction lead glass lustre.

They can be displayed on open shelving, integrated into a home bar setup as functional cocktail mixing vessels, or used as vases for single-stem florals to introduce tactile historical interest.

Wash by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent with a soft cloth, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh mechanical dishwashers to protect the delicate antique surface.
