Description
Here we have a rare solid English Walnut Arts and crafts chest c1900. As you can see the chest has fantastic colour and patina. If John Pearson or anyone of that matter designed a chest then this would be it. The chest has all the hallmarks of the Newlyn School of Arts and Crafts but instead of Copper this is Walnut. The chest has a number of uses but we would suggest a shoe or slipper box or better still a magazine or newspaper holder or Canterbury. It has never been a coal scuttle. There is a wonderful carved fielded panel to the top representing a mythical dragon or beast. There is also a slightly more intricated panel to the front on the same theme. The carving has been done in relief and is as good as many 17th century carvings we have had through our showroom. You will see the chest has been constructed using revealed hand cut dovetail joints and the whole sits of perfect Ogee bracket feet. An outstanding and no doubt unique peice of Arts and Crafts furniture in fantastic retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 58 cm high 64 cm wide 40 cm deep.
