Tunbridge Ware Stationery Box By Edmund Nye

A fine Tunbridge ware stationery box by Edmund Nye. The box is in rosewood with bands of Tunbridge decoration to the outside and to the lid a floral piece is set within boxwood. The box is in excellent condition retaining both the interior lining with original paper and a working key. The base of the box also has the trade label for Edmund Nye. Nye was one of the premier makers of Tunbridge ware and indeed exhibited at The Great Exhibition in 1851 where he received a commendation for his work, a table depicting a ship at sea, in which 110,800 tesserae were used to create the scene. This box is a lovely example of his work in excellent condition, it dates to C.1850.
