French Repeating Carriage Clock by Alfred Drocourt Enamel Panels 1870s

19th century
For Sale by Arundel Clocks
Description

Hi

I have for sale a French striking and repeating carriage clock made in France around the 1870s;s by Drocourt and signed again on the base a quite rare feature with the hand-painted porcilian panels in a gilded engraved gorge case.

This is one nice and heavy clock built to top spec and a must for the best of collections, with the entire clock with the same matching numbers which again is on the base of the escapement.

The Case

The case is in solid shiny gilt brass and stands 17cm to the top of the handle high x 10cm wide with a depth of 8cm it is in perfect condition with mint thick 3mm beveled front and top viewing glass.

The side panels and indeed the dial are hand-painted porcelain panels the artwork is amazing.

The case is very shiny and hard to photograph they do not do the clock justice at all.

The Dial

The dial is in original condition painted porcelain looks stunning in the flesh, the clock has very fine original black spade hands.

The Movement

The movement is an eight-day time and strike that strikes the hours via a small sweet gong to the rear and also has the repeater button on top to repeat the last hour strike, the movement has been serviced so running great.

The clock is stamped Drocourt on the underside plate which is a little different from the normal.

The clock also contains Genre stop work to stop over winding a top-quality feature only found on top-end clocks.

Overall a very beautiful quality carriage clock by a top quality French maker that looks stunning on display and contains all of its original features this is quite a rare find these days.

I will ship worldwide and pack very carefully please read my feedback from other clock buyers.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French repeating carriage clock is a portable 19th-century spring-driven timepiece designed for travel, featuring a carrying handle and a push-button mechanism that strikes the nearest hour or quarter on demand.

These timepieces are primarily constructed from cast and chased gilt brass, bevelled glass panels, and enamelled dials or decorative side panels housing a brass mechanical movement.

Authentic pieces generally feature solid brass construction, bevelled glass, stamped serial numbers or maker marks on the back plate, and traditional platform escapements rather than modern pendulum or quartz drives.

Position the timepiece on a fireplace mantelpiece, styled alongside framed art, brass candlesticks, or stacked art books on a sideboard to create a focal point.

Keep the clock in a dry environment free from temperature fluctuations, dust the exterior gently with a microfibre cloth without chemical polishes that strip gilding, and have the movement professionally serviced every five to seven years.
