In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
It comes with a working key.
It opens to reveal two writing pads as well as a pen tray and a glass inkwell. There is a blotting pad below the lid and the box folds further out to reveal extra storage, letter racks and pen holders.
The box is in very good condition for its age. The leather is in good order with a little bit of wear along the edges but no major damages or marks and it has a lovely patina. Inside, it is generally clean and tidy with a few small marks and signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. The inkwell does not have a lid but overall the box displays very well and is certainly a nice usable item.
