Moorcroft pottery was founded by William Moorcroft in 1913 in Burslem, Staffordshire, following his earlier work at James Macintyre & Co. The pottery is internationally renowned for its distinctive tubelined designs and rich colour palettes, becoming a cornerstone of British art pottery.

Moorcroft pieces are crafted from high-grade clay and decorated using the traditional tubelining technique. Artisans apply a raised outline of liquid clay (slip) by hand to map out the design, which is then manually filled with vibrant coloured ceramic glazes before high-temperature kiln firing.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-painted signatures, monogram marks, or impressed factory stamps on the base, often accompanied by date ciphers or Made in England stamps. The characteristic raised tubelined outlines and deep, mottled glaze effects are also key indicators of genuine manufacture.

Antique ceramic vases add depth and artisanal texture to contemporary spaces when displayed singly on minimalist surfaces or grouped by colour palette on open shelving. Pairing them with neutral backdrops allows the rich glazes and intricate patterns to serve as focal points.

Antique ceramics should be cleaned gently using a soft, dry cloth to remove dust, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive scourers that can damage the glaze. Keep pieces out of direct, prolonged sunlight to prevent colour fading and display them on stable, vibration-free surfaces.
