Good late Georgian / William IV large size cut glass decanter with original faceted stopper along with a silver plated coaster and sherry label. The decanter is a great shape and is beautifully cut and engraved all over. The decanter has a star cut base. The silver plated coaster is probably slightly later but is a great design and fits the decanter perfectly. The silver plated sherry label is definitely later but came with the decanter, can be removed if required. The decanter is in very good condition.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Georgian cut glass decanters were produced in Britain between 1714 and 1830, characterized by heavy lead crystal, hand-ground stoppers, and intricate geometric cutting such as diamond, step, or flute patterns designed to refract candlelight.

These pieces were crafted from high-lead crystal glass to provide maximum clarity and weight, while matching coasters were typically made from Sheffield plate, sterling silver, or silver-plated copper with wood or velvet undersides.

Authentic Georgian decanters typically display a polished pontil mark on the underside of the base, subtle hand-cutting irregularities, a heavy lead-glass feel, and a stopper that is individually ground to fit its specific neck.

Position the decanter alongside vintage glassware on a dark wood sideboard, a polished tray, or a modern brass bar cart to create a sophisticated focal point in a dining or living space.

Wash the glass by hand using lukewarm water, mild washing-up liquid, and a soft brush, avoiding thermal shock from hot water, and ensure the interior is completely dry before inserting the stopper to prevent Clouding.
