The Regency style, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, was heavily influenced by neoclassical architecture, featuring clean lines, symmetrical proportions, and classical motifs inspired by ancient Greece and Rome.

Cabinet makers during this period predominantly utilised dense tropical hardwoods such as Cuban and Honduras mahogany, often enhanced with exotic veneers, brass inlay, and cast bronze or brass mounts.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails on drawer boxes, secondary woods like oak or pine, hand-turned brass hardware, and natural timber oxidisation consistent with age.

Pairing dark wood antiques with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary textiles creates a balanced scheme that highlights the rich grain and architectural presence of the piece without overwhelming the room.

Maintain timber condition by avoiding direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations, applying occasional microcrystalline wax, and dusting gently with a soft, dry lint-free cloth rather than using silicone-based sprays.
