This mid 18th century Georgian tack cupboard originates from a country house estate in Lancashire and is constructed from oak with brass hardware. The piece presents a warm dark brown finish across its substantial timber framework, which stands at 195 cm high, 163 cm wide and 57 cm deep. The upper section contains two main cupboard doors featuring ogee arched fielded panels, flanking a central narrow decorative panel beneath a moulded cornice. The lower section includes three shallow drawers fitted with brass drop handles and escutcheons, set above three larger rectangular fielded panel doors and matching lower drawer fronts. The timber shows visible grain variations and traditional joinery typical of vernacular English country house furniture. In a contemporary interior, this large armoire functions as a storage wardrobe or hallway cabinet, suited for hanging coats and organizing garments with the heavy duty rail fitted prior to dispatch. The architectural proportions and functional configuration make it practical for substantial entrance halls, boot rooms or master bedrooms needing traditional storage capacity. The construction has been completely strengthened and rebuilt during restoration work, rendering the structure robust for modern residential use while retaining its period character and proportions.

Originally designed for country estates to store horse riding equipment, harness gear, or linens, a tack cupboard is a large dual-section wooden storage piece that combines upper door cabinets with lower drawers or faux panels.

These cupboards were predominantly constructed from solid native oak, featuring peg-jointed frames, hand-planed backboards, field-panelled doors, and cast brass escutcheons or drop handles.

Authenticity is indicated by hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn wood markings on backboards, wooden dowel construction, and uneven wear patterns around handles and hinges consistent with age.

A large oak cupboard functions well as a focal statement piece in an entrance hall, dining room, or bedroom, offering practical storage while introducing warm timber tones to balance contemporary or neutral decor.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the oak timber and preserve the historic patina.
