Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Recovered newspaper fragment dated 11 September 1929: fixes the period of use.
Engine-turned brass movement plates by Urgos: Black Forest manufacture from the interwar period.
Dial numerals and carved cresting: German styling bridging Jugendstil and early Art Deco.
Plywood back panel: factory cabinet work standard in late 1920s Germany.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This German longcase clock originates from the Black Forest region around 1925, sitting at the intersection of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. Fashioned from warm brown oak with an original finish, the piece stands 195 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 27 cm deep. The construction incorporates a carved arched bonnet with fine carved floral ornaments at the top, reeded side pilasters framing a glazed trunk door, and shaped bracket feet at the base. Inside the trunk, two cylindrical brass weights and a matching circular pendulum hang suspended on chains. The upper section contains a brass clock face with black Arabic numerals and original hands, protected behind curved glass. The mechanical movement is signed by Urgos of Villingen and strikes every thirty minutes on five gongs, complete with a cord for repeating the last chime. An old paper address label for Wilmersdorf in Berlin remains attached inside. In a contemporary interior, this tall floor clock serves as a functional timepiece and striking decorative focal point in a hallway, home office, or reception room. The rich wood tones and exposed brass components complement traditional and transitional settings alike, while the glass door provides a clear view of the moving weights and pendulum. The original patination across the timber and metal surfaces shows authentic signs of age, consistent with an antique produced in Germany during the 1920s. Operating with a serviced mechanical movement, the clock requires winding and setting by hand according to standard pendulum clock maintenance.

Clocks from this era often display transitional design elements, combining decorative organic carvings from the Art Nouveau movement with the streamlined, geometric architectural forms of early Art Deco horology.

These horological pieces typically feature solid oak casings, glass glazed doors, and internal brass mechanisms including polished weights and a circular pendulum.

Authenticity can be verified by examining the movement construction, brass dial markers, regional carving motifs on the bonnet, and original weight-driven pendulum mechanisms.

A longcase clock functions as a focal architectural piece in an entryway, hallway, or study, complementing dark wood furnishings or providing warm contrast against neutral walls.

The oak cabinet should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and conditioned with natural beeswax, while the internal mechanical movement requires periodic lubrication by a professional horologist.
