Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1890s:
Green printed factory mark including England: used by Copeland from 1891.
Pattern number painted in red script on the base: Victorian factory record practice.
Elaborate gilding over cobalt blue ground: late Victorian revival of Regency taste.
Unglazed foot rim showing accumulated grime: natural resting wear across decades.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Dealers Notes

Robert Belcher Antiques was established in 1984 and is a high-quality retailer of interesting, rare antiques and decorative objects. After forty years of shop keeping and maintaining beautiful showrooms, which have been regularly open six days a week, Robert and Wendy have now taken a slightly different approach to their business. Having sold their retail premises, the antique business is now fully online. The picture framing service has ceased to operate because of moving online.

You can contact Robert and Wendy by email or telephone to discuss items from their extensive catalogue of attractive pieces and make purchases. Customers can rest assured that the long-established dealership is continuing to run in an exceedingly professional way, selling genuine and high-quality items which are guaranteed to please the most discerning collector, decorator or homeowner.

All items will be personally hand packaged to a high standard. Small items are extensively wrapped using the best materials and are often double boxed. Items are then shipped with DHL or Royal Mail fully insured and often with next day delivery. Larger items would be personally delivered or sent with a specialist antique delivery firm, or for outside the U.K, a professional shipping company.

A nineteenth-century Victorian porcelain vase from the Spode works stands on a flared foot with a bulbous body, narrowing at the neck to a flared rim. Two gilded scroll handles flank the vessel, which displays a dark cobalt blue ground finished with fine gold leaf foliage. The body is decorated with hand-painted floral motifs in enamel, featuring large white, purple and red stylised flowers with pale green leaves and detailed borders. The piece measures 20 cm high, 15 cm wide and 10 cm deep. This porcelain vase suits placement on a mantelpiece or side table in an English Country House interior. The underside bears the maker mark in dark green text reading Spode, Copelands China England. The object remains in original condition with intact gilding and enamel decoration across the cobalt blue surface.

Spode china from the late 19th century is recognised for its refined bone china body, deep cobalt blue glazes, intricate hand-painted floral enamels, and extensive gold leaf accenting.

Victorian decorative vases of this tier were manufactured using fine porcelain or bone china, decorated with enamel hand-painting and finished with burnished gold leaf gilding.

Authentic pieces typically feature stamped or hand-written factory maker marks on the underside base, sharp precision in the hand-painted detailing, and a weight consistent with fine bone china.

Position the vase as a focal accent on a sideboard top, mantelpiece, or console table, pairing it with neutral backdrops to highlight the vibrant floral enamel and gilding.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth or clean soft-bristled brush, avoiding abrasive chemicals, harsh detergents, or immersion in water that could degrade the delicate gilding.
