This eighteenth-century Georgian sweetmeat vessel originates from England and dates to approximately 1785 during the period of King George III. Made from clear lead glass, the piece stands 16.5 cm tall with an 8.6 cm rim diameter and a 9.0 cm foot diameter. The design incorporates a lipped cup bowl featuring a scalloped rim, a wheel-engraved swag with polished detailing interspersed with engraved stars, and flute cutting at the base. An eight-sided pedestal stem supports the bowl, complete with diamond-cut shoulders and collars positioned both above and below. The structure rests upon a domed and folded circular foot displaying a snapped pontil. Condition notes indicate excellent quality overall, accompanied by a single small chip located on the rim and a few scratches visible on the bowl. Position this glass object upon a sideboard top as a decorative display piece within a dining room or living space. The transparent clear material reflects light across the faceted stem and engraved motifs, highlighting the craftsmanship of the period. Collectors of Georgian glassware can integrate this item into an existing display cabinet alongside similarly dated vessels and tablewares. The sturdy domed foot anchors the piece securely to flat surfaces while maintaining its classical Regency-inspired profile.

A Georgian glass sweetmeat is an 18th-century tabletop vessel crafted to serve candied fruits, nuts, or small confections during dessert courses. These pieces feature a raised pedestal stem, a decorated bowl, and a circular foot.

Eighteenth-century glassmakers utilised lead glass, valued for clarity, weight, and light refraction. Bowls and stems were hand-blown, often featuring wheel-engraved motifs, faceted pedestal stems, and hand-tooled bases.

Authentic Georgian glass exhibits characteristics such as a pontil mark on the base, minor glass inclusions or air bubbles, a greyish tint from lead content, and hand-cut or wheel-engraved ornamentation.

An antique glass sweetmeat vessel can be displayed on a sideboard, set within a dining centrepiece, or positioned inside a glazed display cabinet where natural light highlights the wheel-engraved surface.

Clean historical lead glass by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges or dishwashers. Dry immediately with a soft microfibre cloth to prevent water spots and protect surface engraving.
