Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE GEORGIAN ERA:
Rough snapped pontil mark on the base: hand-blown manufacture before ground pontils became standard.
Folded rim: hand technique used to strengthen the lip against chipping.
Deep kick in the base: typical eighteenth-century vessel construction.
Slight striations in the glass: mouth-blown work rather than machine moulding.
Rubbing wear on the base rim: decades of standing on hard surfaces.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This clear lead glass Georgian patty pan dates from the period of George III around 1760. The hand-blown body has a flared outward folded rim, tapered sides, and a visible rough snapped pontil mark on the base with a prominent central dome. Patty pans are shallow glass dishes used during the eighteenth century for serving sweetmeats, comfits, jellies, creams, and other fashionable desserts. In a modern interior, this piece serves as a display item or decorative accessory placed on a sideboard top in a dining room, living area, or hallway. The item measures 5 cm in height with an 8.2 cm rim diameter.

A glass patty pan is an 18th-century culinary vessel used primarily for serving small pastries, jellies, or desserts at table. Popular during the Georgian era, these pieces were crafted as part of elaborate dessert services.

Georgian patty pans were typically hand-blown from lead glass, also known as flint glass, which provided heavy weight and clarity. They feature a rough snapped pontil mark on the base as a natural outcome of period glassmaking techniques.

Authentic Georgian pieces exhibit characteristic manufacturing traits including an unground or snapped pontil mark, subtle grey or greenish tinting in the glass, hand-blown striations, and minor variations in wall thickness.

In contemporary settings, an antique patty pan functions as a decorative trinket dish on a dresser, a catch-all bowl on a sideboard top, or a curated accent within a glass display cabinet.

Wash carefully by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock. Dry thoroughly with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid dishwashers completely.
