Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th century Georgian hanging cupboard is fashioned from warm brown oak with a dark finish. The country made piece displays a moulded cornice at the top, twin cabinet doors with fielded arched panels, brass H-hinges on the exterior, brass escutcheons, and small drop handles. The timber exhibits notable surface patination and wear consistent with age, alongside visible grain variations. Measuring 86 cm high, 67.5 cm wide, and 23.5 cm deep, it provides compact wall storage with internal compartments. Practical for everyday use in a modern home, the wall cupboard suits a narrow wall space in a hallway, kitchen, or living area. It offers enclosed storage for small household items while bringing traditional English country house character to the interior. The robust oak construction and functional layout ensure it integrates smoothly into various interior settings as a wall mounted unit.

FAQs

An 18th-century oak hanging cupboard, often referred to as a mural cupboard or spice cabinet, is a compact wall-mounted storage piece designed during the Georgian period to store valuables, spices, or household items securely off the floor.

These cupboards were predominantly constructed using solid English or European oak, assembled with hand-cut mortise and tenon joints held by wooden dowels or pegs. Features typically included fielded or raised panels, hand-moulded cornices, and cast brass H-hinges or escutcheons.

Authentic pieces display signs of historical craftsmanship, such as irregular hand-sawn timber marks, wooden pegs flush or slightly raised on joinery, authentic age-related shrinkage to door panels, and original cast brass hardware with natural surface oxidisation.

Position the cabinet on a narrow wall space, above a console table, or within a modern kitchen to introduce warmth and visual contrast. Pairing dark period oak against light neutral paintwork emphasizes the structural lines and timber grain.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and extreme moisture fluctuations to prevent the timber from warping or splitting.
