This clear lead glass rummer dates from the 19th century Georgian period and stands 13 cm high, with an 8.4 cm wide bowl and an 8 cm deep foot. The heavy vessel has an ovoid bowl featuring hand-engraved naval decoration, including the word 'TRAFALGAR', a frosted shield with an anchor and the initial 'N', flanked by commemorative text and tied palm fronds. The bowl sits on a short, turned capstan stem above a conical circular foot which displays age-related wear and tear to the rim, a small unburst manufacturing bubble, and a crack running down from the rim through the bowl. Today, this commemorative piece finds a suitable home on a sideboard top to be admired as part of a collection of historical glassware. The clear material and detailed engraving allow it to stand out on display, while its restored condition and historical significance make it a conversation piece for studies, dining rooms, or living spaces.

A rummer is a short-stemmed drinking glass popular in eighteenth and nineteenth-century Britain, often wheel-engraved to commemorate historic events, naval victories, or political figures.

These vessels were typically hand-blown from heavy lead glass, featuring wheel-engraved inscriptions and polished or unpolished pontil scars on the underside of the foot.

Authentic period glassware displays minor asymmetrical proportions, small air bubbles within the glass matrix, natural base wear on the foot rim, and hand-engraved details using period-accurate typography.

Place the piece inside an illuminated display cabinet or on a sideboard top alongside period literature to highlight the fine detail of the surface engraving.

Wash gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild non-abrasive detergent, avoiding hot water thermal shock and automated dishwasher cycles.
