Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This small side cabinet dates from the 1920s period in a mid-century modern style. The piece is constructed from walnut wood veneer in a warm brown colour with open shelving and asymmetrical compartments. Details visible include visible comb joints at the outer edges of the structure, smooth polished surfaces, and the maker stamp of Heals Tottenham Court Road London. The cabinet measures 48 cm high, 48.5 cm wide, and 23 cm deep in practical terms. In a contemporary home, this item works well placed at the end of a sofa or against a wall to hold books and decorative objects. The compact proportions allow it to fit into smaller living spaces or hallways while providing accessible storage and display surfaces. The sturdy build ensures stability for daily use in a hallway, bedroom, or living room setting.

FAQs

Mid-Century British modern design focuses on functional utility, clean geometric lines, and minimal ornamentation. Cabinet makers like Heals emphasised quality craftsmanship, visible joinery, and the natural grain of wood.

Pieces from this era frequently utilised solid hardwoods such as oak, teak, and walnut, often combined with high-grade veneered plywood to prevent warping while displaying rich grain patterns.

Authentic pieces often feature a small ivory or brass makers disc, paper labels, or stamped markings inside drawers or on the reverse. Look for high-standard joinery, such as precise comb or dovetail joints.

Open cabinets work well as sofa end tables, record storage, or bedside units. Style the asymmetrical open bays with stacked books, ceramic vessels, or audio equipment to highlight the architectural structure.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry microfiber cloth and nourish the timber with natural beeswax polish twice a year. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent drying and fading.
