This early seventeenth-century Jacobean joined oak coffer has a dark brown finish with rich natural patination from four centuries of wax and care. The flat hinged lid opens on original iron split pin hinges and has a stable old split. A carved top rail runs across the front with geometric, rose carved wheels, above three square fielded panels, each decorated with a central daisy form roundel with a ribboned border. Carved palmettes adorn the front stiles, while the side stiles feature double running cable carving and the bottom rail has blocked and carved detailing continuing to the side panels. Peg joints hold the construction together alongside small, old, well-blended restorations and upright stile feet. Measuring 150 cm wide, 70 cm high, and 62 cm deep, this heavy and capacious chest provides substantial storage for a home. It sits well in a hallway, bedroom, or living space as a practical surface and storage unit, suitable for holding blankets, linens, or everyday items while bringing authentic early English country house character to interior schemes.

Jacobean coffers from the early 17th century typically feature joined oak construction, framed panels, and geometric or botanical relief carvings along the frieze and panel faces.

These storage trunks were predominantly constructed from solid English oak utilizing mortise-and-tenon joints secured with wooden pegs, often paired with forged iron hinges and lock plates.

Authentic pieces feature hand-planed timber surfaces, irregular hand-cut wooden pegs, original pin hinges or strap hinges, and natural surface patination caused by oxidation over centuries.

An oak coffer functions as statement storage in a modern hallway, living room, or bedroom, bringing textural contrast when paired with contemporary soft furnishings and clean architectural lines.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and protect the original finish, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners.
