Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1930s:
Acid-etched mark on the underside rim: pre-war factory signature that fixes manufacture.
Contrast of satin frosting and polished crown: fits the original production run.
Crisp detail across the fanned tail feathers: fits early mould use.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This clear and frosted glass paperweight depicts a small sparrow perched upon an integrated base. Created in the 1930s Art Deco style, the figurine exhibits fine feather detailing along the wings and back, an upturned head with a pointed beak, and a fan-shaped tail. The object is rendered entirely in frosted clear crystal. The underside bears an acid-etched signature reading R Lalique, alongside the Marcilhac catalogue number 1167. Measuring 8.5 cm high, the figurine is sized for display on a bookshelf or desk within a living room, study, or hallway. The piece functions primarily as a decorative paperweight or tabletop sculpture. The bird is modelled in a proud posture with textured plumage and visible wing feathers radiating outward from the body. The compact footprint allows placement on mantelpieces, accent tables, or within display cabinets. The neutral frosted glass tone complements a range of interior colour schemes while fitting into collections of mid-century or Art Deco decorative arts.

Art Deco glass from this era is characterised by geometric forms, stylized depictions of flora and fauna, and the contrast between polished clear glass and satin frosted finishes. Techniques such as acid etching and press-moulding were widely used to create detailed relief patterns.

Frosted glass figurines were produced using custom steel or bronze moulds to shape molten glass under pressure. Once cooled, specific areas were treated with acid baths or sandblasting techniques to achieve a diffuse, velvety matt surface contrast against polished sections.

Authentic pieces typically feature etched, engraved, or wheel-cut signatures near the base, such as R. Lalique for pre-1945 productions or Lalique France for post-war items. Additionally, authentic objects exhibit high glass quality, precise moulding details, and balanced weight.

Small glass sculptures can be styled on stacked art books, minimalist shelving, or within illuminated display cabinets. Positioned near natural light sources or directional spotlights, the glass catches light to create subtle highlights without visually cluttering a space.

Frosted glass should be cleaned using warm water and a small amount of mild, non-abrasive soap applied with a soft lint-free cloth. Harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive pads must be avoided to prevent damage to the matte surface finish.
