Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 17th-century William and Mary cabinet on stand takes the form of a rectangular double-door cupboard supported by a raised base, constructed from kingwood timber with a rich brown colour and polished finish. The piece displays geometric parquetry veneer patterns across the cabinet doors and sides, complemented by polished brass side carrying handles, brass key escutcheons, and a low frame structure raised on bobbin-turned legs joined by a box stretcher. Practical proportions measure 133 cm high, 89 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, making the piece suitable for display and storage in a gentleman's library or study space as a tabletop cabinet or decorative stand.

FAQs

A kingwood parquetry cabinet on stand is a decorative storage piece originating in the late 17th century, featuring geometric wood veneers arranged in intricate patterns mounted upon a raised leg frame.

These pieces were typically constructed using an oak or pine pine carcass overlaid with exotic hardwood veneers such as kingwood, rosewood, or walnut, finished with cast brass hardware and turned wooden legs.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-sawn veneer thickness variations, original cast brass fittings showing natural oxidisation, and uneven wear patterns on lower stretchers and legs.

Position the piece as a focal architectural accent against a neutral wall, pairing it with contemporary artwork or minimal ceramic lamps to balance its rich historic texture.

Maintain stable humidity levels to prevent timber movement, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly while avoiding liquid cleaners that loosen veneer glue.
