Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian Gothic Revival hall cupboard stands tall in dark brown oak with a deep polished timber finish. The upper section contains a central cabinet door adorned with intricate tracery carving, an armorial crest, and red accents along the horizontal borders, flanked by side panels with pierced Gothic tracery. Below the main compartment, carved drop finials hang beneath a frieze moulding and panelled backboard, sitting above an open lower shelf and a moulded octagonal base. Original dark iron strap hinges and a latch secure the front door. Practical measurements span 149 cm high, 84 cm wide, and 49 cm deep. This architectural piece functions in a hallway or entryway to hold small items and display decorative objects.

FAQs

Victorian Gothic Revival furniture, popular during the mid-to-late 19th century, draws architectural inspiration from medieval design, featuring motifs such as pointed arches, tracery panels, heraldic crests, and heavy iron mounts.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native hardwoods, predominantly dark oak, utilizing hand-carved panels, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and forged iron hardware.

Look for crisp hand-carved detailing, authentic age-related patina to the oak, traditional 19th-century joinery, architectural tracery elements, and period-appropriate iron hinges or locks.

Position the cupboard as a focal point in an entryway or hallway, pairing the dark timber against neutral plaster walls and balancing the heavy carving with minimal contemporary accessories.

Keep the wood clean by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to protect the finish, and keep the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement.
