Eighteenth-century longcase clocks, often termed grandfather clocks, are characterised by their tall wooden cases designed to house a pendulum and weights, featuring classical architectural details such as swan neck pediments and brass dials.

These timepieces were traditionally crafted from dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring brass dial faces with engraved silvered chapter rings and intricate cast brass corner spandrels.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut joinery, traditional movement signatures, patination on the timber, and original brass work rather than modern machine-made replacements.

Position the clock as a focal point in a hallway or living room, allowing its vertical proportions to draw the eye upward while pairing it with minimalist furnishings to highlight its historic character.

Maintain a stable indoor climate away from direct sunlight and moisture, wind the movement with care according to its specific mechanism, and have the mechanical movement professionally serviced every few years.
