Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the four British kings named George from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a transition from heavy walnut to lighter mahogany, classical proportions, and influences from Palladianism, rococo, and neoclassical design.

These pieces typically utilise solid native oak frames or carcases often faced with quarter-sawn oak or imported mahogany veneers, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass H-hinges, and pegged construction.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber shrinkage, hand-forged or brass hardware, secondary woods on the interior such as pine or deal, and tool marks consistent with hand-planing and traditional joinery rather than modern machinery.

Mounting the cupboard at standard eye level in an underutilised corner allows it to function as both a practical storage solution and a focal point that adds architectural depth and historic contrast to modern minimalist spaces.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels between 45 and 55 percent, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax rather than silicone-based polishes.
