This 19th-century French mantel clock is constructed from warm brown rosewood with contrasting light boxwood floral marquetry inlay, double stringing, and a pale plinth base. A cast or chased brass handle sits atop the rectangular case, which houses a white enamel dial featuring black Roman numerals behind a beaded brass bezel. The movement is inscribed with the maker's name, Henry Marc Paris. Measuring 21.5 cm high, 15 cm wide, and 12 cm deep, the timepiece functions on a French eight-day duration mechanism with silk suspension, an outside count wheel, and strikes on a bell. Suitable for placement on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or desk, this decorative clock brings period character to a living room, study, or hallway interior. It functions as a traditional timekeeper while adding ornamental detail through its classical French chateau style and contrasting timber tones.

A 19th-century French marquetry mantel clock is a decorative horological piece crafted during the Charles X or Louis Philippe period, characterised by intricate floral wood marquetry inlays set into a dense rosewood or walnut case.

These clocks typically feature rosewood or mahogany veneered cases decorated with light-coloured marquetry inlays such as boxwood, along with cast brass dials or bezels, enamel dial plates, and brass movement mechanisms.

Authenticity is verified by inspecting maker stamps or signatures on the backplate or dial face, evaluating hand-cut marquetry work, and examining traditional countwheel strike movement assemblies inside the case.

A rosewood mantel clock adds visual weight and warmth when placed on a fireplace mantelpiece, marble-topped console table, or structured bookshelf alongside modern architectural accessories.

Position the clock away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, and dust the cabinet gently using a dry microfibre cloth without applying liquid or abrasive chemical polishes.
