Corner cupboards emerged in the early 18th century as a space-saving architectural solution to utilise empty room corners for storage and display.

Cabinet makers typically utilised solid native timbers such as oak, elm, and pine, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints and wrought iron or brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period construction techniques including hand-planed surfaces, pegged joints, irregular glass panes with bubbles, and natural timber oxidisation.

Position the piece in an empty corner to maximise spatial efficiency, and curate the interior shelves with neutral ceramics or glassware to balance the dark timber.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
