Music cabinets became popular during the Victorian and Edwardian periods as households increasingly acquired pianos and sheet music required dedicated storage.

They were typically constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, often featuring hand-painted panels, marquetry inlay, and brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by traditional joinery methods, period-appropriate finishes, hand-painted details rather than modern prints, and authentic wear patterns on internal shelving.

Such cabinets function effectively as accent storage pieces in living rooms or studies, providing vertical interest while discreetly storing small items.

Maintain wood cabinets by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat surfaces periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
