Victorian glass production was characterised by heavy, clear lead crystal featuring deep brilliant-cut geometric patterns, fluting, and panel cutting, reflecting the industrial capabilities and refined dining habits of the 19th century.

These items were traditionally mouth-blown into moulds or free-blown from heavy flint glass or lead crystal, then hand-finished and wheel-cut by skilled artisans using abrasive stones and polishing wheels.

Authentic pieces often exhibit minor irregularities such as tiny air bubbles in the metal, pontil marks on the underside of the base where the glass was snapped from the blowpipe, and characteristic wear or fine scratches on the footrim.

Antique crystal can be displayed openly within glass-fronted cabinets, used on bar carts for entertaining, or styled on dining tables to introduce texture, heritage, and reflective light into modern spaces.

Antique glassware should always be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes that can cause thermal shock and cracking, and dried immediately with a lint-free cloth.
