FAQs

Victorian furniture, produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), is characterised by robust construction, the prominent use of dense hardwoods such as mahogany and walnut, and functional designs that evolved significantly across the early, mid, and late periods.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised solid mahogany or mahogany veneers applied over secondary woods like pine or oak, often incorporating turned wooden knob handles and dovetailed drawer construction.

Authenticity is typically determined by examining construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetails on drawer joints, timber shrinkage patterns, natural patina, and the absence of modern machine-made fixings.

These pieces can be integrated into modern bedrooms by pairing them with minimalist lighting and neutral colour palettes to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate natural waxes to maintain the finish.
