Edwards and Roberts of Wardour Street, London became synonymous with high quality furniture producing items to a very high standard using the finest timbers. Their cabinet makers produced contemporary items as well as reproductions of earlier English and French pieces, favouring Georgian designs and satinwood marquetry. Victorian display cabinets, particularly those crafted by eminent makers such as Edwards & Roberts during the late 19th century, reflected a revival of classical styles combined with sophisticated marquetry and satinwood inlay techniques.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany and mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, accentuated by delicate boxwood and satinwood stringing, hand-cut dovetail joints, and hand-blown glass panels.

Authenticity is indicated by period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut dovetailing, old secondary woods, subtle signs of age in the glass, and where present, makers stamps or signatures on the drawers.

Such pieces serve as focal points in sophisticated reception rooms, providing a rich contrast against neutral walls while housing curated collections of ceramics, glassware, or small objects of art.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, and apply occasional natural beeswax polish while avoiding silicone-based commercial sprays.
