A French four glass clock is a style of timekeeper featuring bevelled glass panels on all four sides and top, allowing visibility of the intricate mechanical movement from multiple angles, typically produced during the late 19th century.

These timepieces are constructed using cast or gilt brass frameworks combined with champleve enamel decoration, where troughs are gouged into the metal surface and filled with coloured glass paste before firing.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit numbered brass movements, hand-painted enamel dials, mercury or spring-driven pendulums, and makers stamps on the backplate corresponding to historical French horological manufacturers.

Positioning the clock on a prominent flat surface such as a fireplace mantel, bookshelf, or sideboard allows the metallic finishes and glass panels to catch natural light while serving as a focal point.

Maintenance involves dusting the glass with a lint-free cloth and using specialised non-abrasive metal cleaners sparingly on the brass, while professional servicing of the mechanical movement is recommended every few years.
