A really nice bracket/mantel clock in outstanding condition throughout.

The mahogany, padtop case retains it's original French-polished finish with a beautiful, warm patina that only age can produce. It has silk backed, brass sound frets to the sides and matching frets to the lower half of the case beneath the dial. It has a brass surround padtop and brass carrying handle and brass splicing to the front corners. It stands on four brass ball feet.

The 7" dia. convex silvered dial has engraved black Roman numerals, nicely cut hands, and a cast brass bezel enclosing the convex glass, key opening, door.

Bracket clocks originated in the 17th century in England, designed initially with brackets for wall mounting, though later iterations evolved into portable table or mantel clocks meant to be easily moved between rooms.

These timepieces traditionally feature a hardwood case such as mahogany, oak, or ebonised wood, housing complex brass mechanical movements, often adorned with gilt bronze mounts and silvered chapter rings.

Authenticity is determined by examining the hand-engraved backplate of the movement, the quality of the timber grain, hand-cut brass screws, and matching serial numbers on the case and movement.

Position the clock prominently on a bookshelf, sideboard, or mantelpiece where its traditional architectural lines and polished wood grain can provide a sophisticated contrast to contemporary minimalist decor.

Keep the clock away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and moisture. Ensure it is professionally serviced and oiled every three to five years to maintain the mechanical movement.
